Minnesota Orchestra (founded 1903 as Minneapolis Symphony) is a Minneapolis-based classical orchestra known for new music, education, 175 yearly concerts, a Grammy, and tours to Cuba, South Africa & Europe.
Béla Bartók was a Hungarian composer, pianist, and ethnomusicologist, widely regarded as one of the most important composers of the 20th century. Alongside Zoltán Kodály, he pioneered the study of folk music, capturing indigenous Central European melodies and integrating them into his modernist classical compositions. His notable works include his six string quartets, the opera Bluebeard's Castle, and the Concerto for Orchestra. Faced with the rise of fascism in Europe, he immigrated to the United States in 1940, where he continued to compose until his death from leukemia in 1945.
Beijing-born virtuoso pianist Yuja Wang: Deutsche Grammophon star famed for Russian repertory, dazzling technique & bold fashion; played Chopin/Liszt/Ligeti, collab’d with Gautier Capuçon.
Hannu Lintu, a Finnish conductor from Rauma, is acclaimed for his dynamic style and orchestral insight. An alumnus of the Sibelius Academy, he won the Nordic Conducting Competition in 1994. He leads the Finnish National Opera and Ballet and Orquestra Gulbenkian, and is Artistic Partner of the Lahti Symphony Orchestra and Director of the International Sibelius Festival. He is also appointed Music Director of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. His recordings have garnered International Classical Music Awards and GRAMMY nominations.
