Sophie Irene Hunter is an English avant-garde theatre and opera director, playwright, and former actress and singer. Born in Hammersmith, London in 1978, she studied Modern Languages at the University of Oxford before training in avant-garde theatre at L'École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris. She made her directorial debut in 2007 with the experimental play The Terrific Electric, which won the Oxford Samuel Beckett Theatre Trust Award, and has since directed acclaimed productions including Ghosts, The Magic Flute, and 69° South.
