Philadelphia soul pioneers the Intruders, formed in 1960, rose to fame with hits like "Cowboys to Girls" and "(Love Is Like A) Baseball Game". Their collaboration with Gamble & Huff launched Philly International.

Memphis soul trio formed in 1970, Harold Scott, Jasper Phillips, and William Johnson hit R&B charts with "Dedicated to the One I Love" in 1972 and "I Found Love on a Disco Floor" in 1976.

Heatwave, formed by brothers Johnnie and Keith Wilder, is renowned for its international disco-funk sound, featuring hits like "Boogie Nights" and "Always and Forever." After starting in Germany, the band moved to the UK, joining forces with songwriter Rod Temperton. Their albums, produced by Barry Blue, consistently featured soulful ballads and dynamic grooves. Despite lineup changes, including Temperton's shift to writing hits for Michael Jackson, Heatwave's legacy remained strong into the 90s. The group made a notable return with live tours and remixes, celebrating their enduring influence in dance music.

San Francisco's Latin rock band Malo, formed by ex-Malibus & Naked Lunch members, hit it big with "Suavecito" in 1972. Known for blending rock, jazz, and Latin, they collaborated with producer David Rubinson and Santana's guitarist Jorge Santana.
