Italo Disco

Italo disco is a music genre that originated in Italy in the late 1970s and early 1980s, evolving from post-disco and synth-pop. Characterized by its fully electronic production—utilizing synthesizers, drum machines, and electronic drums—the genre frequently featured futuristic, sci-fi, and space-themed lyrics usually sung in English. The term was popularized internationally in 1983 by Bernhard Mikulski, head of the German record label ZYX, to market compilations of Italian dance music, and the genre heavily influenced the development of house, techno, and subsequent electronic dance music styles.
