Formed in Oldham, Inspiral Carpets emerged in the late-'80s/early-'90s Madchester scene with psychedelic, organ-driven rock. Smith and John Cooper Clarke, their albums like "Life" and "Devil Hopping" made them notable in the indie scene. After disbanding in 1995, they reformed for sold-out tours and released new music, ultimately pausing activities after drummer Craig Gill's death in 2016.
