Cuban pianist and composer Chucho Valdés, born in Quivicán, is a pivotal figure in Afro-Cuban jazz, blending Afro-Cuban, jazz, and classical styles. He's won seven GRAMMYs, five Latin GRAMMYs, and a Latin Academy Lifetime Achievement Award. His acclaimed album "Jazz Batá 2" earned a Latin GRAMMY and was on Billboard's 50 Best Latin Albums of the Decade. Valdés collaborates with his wife, Lorena Salcedo, to share Latin jazz globally.
Cuban-born, New Jersey-based saxophonist Paquito D'Rivera excels in Latin jazz and classical music. A founder of Irakere and collaborator with Bebo Valdés and Yo Yo Ma, he boasts 14 Grammys. His acclaimed albums include "Tropicana Nights," "Brazilian Dreams," and "Panamericana Suite," showcasing his vibrant style.
Cuban trumpet virtuoso Arturo Sandoval is renowned for his high-energy Latin jazz and classical performances. Mentored by Dizzy Gillespie, he dazzled with Irakere, then defected to the US.
