Elim Chan is a Hong Kong-born conductor who is the music director-designate of the San Francisco Symphony, a role she assumes in the 2027/28 season. She became the first female winner of the Donatella Flick Conducting Competition in 2014, leading to an appointment as assistant conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra. She previously served as chief conductor of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra from 2019 to 2024 and principal guest conductor of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra from 2018 to 2023. Chan holds degrees from Smith College and the University of Michigan and is celebrated internationally for her modern orchestral leadership and precision.
