Philadelphia soul pioneers the Intruders, formed in 1960, rose to fame with hits like "Cowboys to Girls" and "(Love Is Like A) Baseball Game". Their collaboration with Gamble & Huff launched Philly International.
The Dazz Band, from Cleveland, Ohio, won a Grammy for "Let It Whip" in 1983. Known for electrifying R&B and funk, they had 20+ Billboard hits like "Joystick" and "Heartbeat." They appeared on Soul Train and American Bandstand, releasing 14 albums over five decades. Led by Grammy-winning saxophonist Bobby Harris, the band includes original members Keith Harrison and new vocalists SNCR and Maurice Smith.
The Delfonics, seminal Philly soul trio with William & Wilbert Hart and Randy Cain, soared with hits like "La La Means I Love You." Known for their smooth "Philadelphia sound," they influenced R&B and were featured in Tarantino's "Jackie Brown." Collaborated with Ghostface Killah and Adrian Younge.
Amanda Perez, born in Fort Wayne, IN, is known for her unique blend of urban soul. She writes, produces, and sings, gaining fame with hits like "Angel." Signed by Virgin, her albums "Angel" and "I Pray" hit Billboard's Top 100.
Flint's funk band Ready For The World rocked the 1985 scene with hits "Oh Sheila" and "Love You Down," showcasing sensuous vocals and trendy production.
