Yakov Smirnoff, born in Odesa, Ukrainian SSR, immigrated to the US in 1977. This Ukrainian-American comedian is celebrated for his observational humor, contrasting Soviet and American life, and his iconic "What a country!" catchphrase. He appeared in films with Robin Williams and Tom Hanks, on "Night Court," and had his own show, "What a Country!". He also holds advanced degrees in psychology and is a painter.
