Natalie Dessay is a French soprano and actress who rose to international prominence as an opera singer in the 1990s. Initially training in acting before discovering her vocal talent, she gained wide recognition for her portrayal of Olympia in The Tales of Hoffmann in 1992 and went on to perform at leading global stages including the Paris Opera, Vienna State Opera, and the Metropolitan Opera. Initially celebrated for her technical mastery in coloratura soprano roles such as the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute and Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos, she transitioned to heavier bel canto roles following vocal surgeries in the early 2000s. Since her retirement from the operatic stage in 2013, she has pursued a diverse career in theater, recitals, and concert performances, exploring genres such as jazz and French chansons.
